Makin’ Bacon

If you head Southeast from Adelaide & travel about an hour you might just inadvertently drive past this place.

Located in the middle of grain growing country, this pig farm has been unused since 2016, when the final livestock were shipped off for auction.

It’s an eerie place, with the pig faeces still sitting on the old timber floor slats about 10 centimetres thick, but thoroughly aged now, dry & perfect for use on someone’s garden if they could get to it. It’s hot in these sheds, with minimal airflow & I’m glad they are no longer in use, as it is quite inhumane to house such large animals in such conditions.

Everything is still in place here, almost as if the family who used to run this place have just stepped out for a bit of a breather!
